  • I found a beer and wine store for my nightly bottle of wine, a Safeway for groceries, a Roger's Video store to rent movies, and even yet another ubiquitous Starbucks in case I simply could not live without a caramel frappuccino
  • As I was walking along the strip mall, I saw a tiny store with shelves of vegetables and fruit spilling out onto the sidewalk, and since I am usually appalled at the price of produce at Safeway, I decided to check it out
  • The selection is wonderful, and even though the selection and the prices go up and down depending on the season, Calvin's is always the best choice for produce
  • Also, Calvin's is so convenient, whereas some of the other markets are a fair distance away

I discovered Calvin’s Farm Market quite by accident on my first day in my new home in Delta. I had gone to a strip mall about five minutes from my home to pick up a few items for dinner and to tide me over until I could find a larger grocery store, and found some great places for those daily needs. I found a beer and wine store for my nightly bottle of wine, a Safeway for groceries, a Roger’s Video store to rent movies, and even yet another ubiquitous Starbucks in case I simply could

not live without a caramel frappuccino. As I was walking along the strip mall, I saw a tiny store with shelves of vegetables and fruit spilling out onto the sidewalk, and since I am usually appalled at the price of produce at Safeway, I decided to check it out. This little market has become the ONLY place I shop at for my produce, all year long.

When I say tiny, I mean so small that both customers and staff have to maneuver carefully around each other, but the prices are consistently good, at least a third cheaper ...

      • than any grocery store in the vicinity. The selection is wonderful, and even though the selection and the prices go up and down depending on the season, Calvin’s is always the best choice for produce. There is also a great selection of Asian produce, so if you cook some ethnic dishes, you can usually find exotic vegetables, like lemon grass or bok choy. Now, at times, particularly on the weekend, the line ups at two cash registers are very long, and the crowds make it difficult to do your shopping quickly. However, the friendly staff always
opens another till or helps each other bag the purchases, so it does not take an enormous amount of time.

I have even been to some of the larger farmer’s markets in the Fraser Valley, and have found that as well as only being open for a few months a year, they do not have a bigger selection, just more square feet in the stores. Also, Calvin’s is so convenient, whereas some of the other markets are a fair distance away. I will likely buy my produce exclusively from Calvin’s as long as I live in this area.
