Poor Kim Basinger… She really wanted to make a supernatural horror thriller. And this film turned out to be supernatural fluff. I wanted to like it, but was leery of Basinger’s acting skills.

I didn’t think she could really pull off being a mother attempting to protect her

child from the devil. I guess the director felt the same way, because a twist was put on the story: Maggie (Basinger) is the aunt of a little baby abandoned by her heroin-addict sister.

She begins raising the autistic child and then realizes that this child is more than just “special”—she’s got special gifts. And according to the cult ...

      • searching for her, she has the birthdate that they’re looking for (how lame).

At any rate, we spend the entire 107 minutes of this movie trying to believe that the leader of said cult chose Jenna (Angela Bettis) to be his wife, simply because of the date her child was born. The whole movie is just hokey.

It’s entertaining enough to be considered “fodder”.

        But that’s about it.

Oh yeah, Christina Ricci has a less than memorable role as one of the cult’s followers (who decides to help Maggie). The director could have chosen someone else for this role, in my opinion.

Anyway, because I like supernatural horror, I decided to roll with this film. It’s not terrible.

But it’s not really good either.
