The Underground River is one of the most popular tourist spots here in the Philippines. In fact it is a candidate as one of the new seven wonders of the world. It is found in the City of Puerto Princesa which is in the province of Palawan.

To go there, you need to take a plane from Manila or from Cebu which takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a boat ride which normally takes 24 hours of travelling.

      Once you are in Puerto

Princesa you will need to travel to the town of Sabang for 2 more hours. Bring 2000 pesos (40 US dollars) if you are travelling alone because you need to pay for the bus, the boat and government fees.

There are travel agencies who can book you but this will be more expensive. You will then be taken to the site via a boat ride.

You will again ride a boat but this time to go inside the Underground River. The Underground ...

      • river is actually an 8 Km river inside a cave.

The boat ride inside the cave is for about 45 minutes. The experience and the sight inside the cave is really memorable and is worth the travel (and expenses).

You will see different rock formations which took millions of years to develop. Things to remember before going to the Underground River.

First bring your lunch and drinks. There are no stores in the site.

As a courtesy (though not required), please bring additional

food for your boatmen. Your boatmen will wait for you until the ride is over and will bring you back to Sabang.

It is prohibited to swim in the river since this is a protected site. And most importantly, the bus going back to the city leaves at 2 pm.

Be sure to be there or you will have to spend your night in Sabang. There are inns and resorts in Sabang in case you dont make it back to the station at 2 pm.
