“Captain Blood” is based on a novel by Rafael Sabatini. Peter Blood (Errol Flynn), an honest British doctor, is accused of treason for treating the wounds of the rebels.

To him, a wounded man is a wounded man, no matter what side he is on, and it is the doctor’s duty to help

      him.

However, the crown does not see it this way.

Doctor Blood is sentenced to be sold to slavery in Jamaica, for ten years, after which he is forever barred from returning to England.

When he is “up for sale” in Port Royal, a beautiful Englishwoman Arabella Bishop (Olivia de Havilland), takes pity on him and buys him to work at her father’s plantation, thus saving him from the mines.

Her father, Colonel Bishop, turns out to be a stern, cruel man, he dislikes Peter Blood and mistreats him.

The doctor perseveres, enduring harsh conditions and whippings.

he is being owned, like a piece of property, and looks for a chance to escape.

An opportunity comes during a pirate raid, and Peter blood seizes it.

Eventually, he becomes a pirate himself - Captain Blood - a noble and a successful one.

When he finds out that Arabella has been captured

by the evil Captain Levasseur (Basil Rathbone), Blood rushes to her aid.

He fights Levasseur and kills him.

Later on Blood is pardoned by William of Orange, the new British king.

This is an old, black and white movie, but a good one that you can enjoy with your kids without having to worry about profanity.
