Eragon is the first book in what is titled The Inheritance Trilogy. I had seen this book and heard that it was great but had never really paid too much attention to it. However I was at the book store looking for something new to read when I found this, so I picked it up and decided to try it. It was wonderful! I really enjoyed this book.

If you are fans of fantasy or adventure or Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, you will like this book/series. It’s older than Harry Potter but not as old as Lord of the Rings. What I mean by this is that the writing style is geared towards teenagers and young adults (although kids will love it too) while Lord of the Rings is much heavier and complex and Harry Potter (in the sense of writing style) is less heavy and

      complex.

This book is about a boy named Eragon who lives a pretty normal life in a tiny village with his uncle and cousin. He doesn’t know his parents, but is content with his life. One day while he’s out hunting, he comes across a blue “rock”.

He takes it home with him and then proceeds to ask traders and merchants if it is worth anything. However news spreads of this “rock” and evil people come looking for him and his rock. So he hides it.

Then the “rock” hatches and out pops a baby dragon. So begins the relationship between the dragon, who comes to be named Saphira (which I love) and Eragon (who is now a Dragon-Rider). While out with Saphira, the people searching for Eragon come and burn down his house killing his uncle.

Eragon decides he should leave so no one else gets hurt. On ...

      • his way out of town, the old story teller, Brom, joins up with Eragon telling him he knows of Saphira and all about the legendary Dragon Riders. So Brom and Eragon embark on a journey to save any other Dragon Eggs and to learn the ways of the Rider and to seek his revenge.

He and Saphira form a unique bond that is shared mentally, spiritually and sometimes physically. He and Saphira can “talk” though its basically reading each others thoughts. The book follows Brom, Eragon and Saphira as they travel through the lands training Eragon and learning more about why people were sent after him.

Eragon is able to learn magic and about the other races. He finds himself coming to the rescue of an elven maiden, named Arya (who rocks by the way). Along the way he meets up with another traveler, named Murtagh, who accompany’s them.

They decied to go to the land of the dwarves to meet up with others who are plotting and fighting against the King and his army. There battles take place and the book ends after a big battle has taken place. The book is amazing! This was written by a 15 year old! Yes, a 15 year old wrote this book, but you would never know that.

The detail is amazing, the landscape is breathtaking beautiful, and the description of the races and their history makes them come alive on the pages. I really enjoyed this book, and as soon as I was through, had to go out and buy the second in the trilogy. So much else happens in this book and there are so many characters! I love some of the dwarves and the evil Shade is downright scary.

This is a great book for all fantasy/adventure lovers!

There are basically three main charaters: Eragon, his dragon Saphira and the villian Galbatorix.
