  • The explosions are weak and the skyline and buildings look dull and lifeless - I thought a day like Independence Day was supposed to be the opposite
  • Either way, after reading all of this and you still want to celebrate Independence Day , I recommend renting rather than buying

Story: Based on the movie of the same name. Aliens have arrived in city-wide spaceships all over the world to get rid of mankind and take over the Earth’s resources.

Graphics: Grainy textures and landscapes, regardless of how large they are. The explosions are weak and the skyline and buildings look dull and lifeless - I thought a day like Independence Day was supposed to be the opposite?

Controls: As clunky as ever. It’s so hard to navigate your plane around these environments. Plus it sometimes takes a while for the game to realize what command you pressed, couple that with how

tough it is to lock on to your enemy targets before firing, and you’ve got yourself a big pain in the butt.

Gameplay: It’s pretty much a flight simulator type of game that attempts to inject the action, adventure, plot, and excitement of the movie but it automatically fails in every department. Then you get sent out in fighter planes in every level, each plane seems not compatible enough to do battle with the computer enemy AI ships which are hard to lock on to and fire at.

The first two or three stages will be enough for you to give ...

      • up. The levels suck totally - Even though each one is a different city from around the world, they are all pretty much the same, just lifeless and grainy paintings with a couple of cars driving around here and there that you can blow up (don’t get too excited, the explosions are tiny and uninspiring). You’re better off flying the fighter jet in “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” and shooting up everything than playing this.

Overall: “Independence Day” suffers from a huge lack of uninspired visuals and screwy controls, it simply feels as if this was just made for a quick

cash in on the movie and not as a true video game adaptation. It doesn’t matter whether you play this on the PlayStation or PC, nothing will change how terrible this game is. It sucks because it could have been so much better, it could have been a multi-faceted game with not only flight simulator levels but third person on foot levels and probably driving as well (”Die Hard Trilogy” had that and it came out around the same year as this). Either way, after reading all of this and you still want to celebrate “Independence Day”, I recommend renting rather than buying.
