A prequel to the hugely popular and controversial book ‘The DaVinci Code’ by author Dan Brown, ‘Angels and Demons’ introduces us to the character of Robert Langdon, a Harvard Professor who is drawn into a labyrinthine web of murder and conspiracy that reaches into the upper echelons of the Vatican, seemingly perpetuated by a long dead secret society called The Illuminati.

‘The DaVinci Code’ was the book that really

put Dan Brown on the map, but in my opinion, ‘Angels and Demons’ is a much better read as it is faster paced and more action oriented than its sequel, and also weaves a much more complex and thrilling plot. Any fan of Dan Brown will see the seeds of ‘The DaVinci Code’ being sewn in this book, as the structure (and sometimes content) of both stories are ...

      • remarkably similar. There is also a time element at play in the story that forces the characters into perpetual motion as they race against the clock to uncover the nefarious plot and save the lives of thousands of people, which is ultimately a more visceral experience for the reader. This book really is a page-turner and you wont be able to put it down until you find out
        how it all plays out.

It is an easy enough read and short enough that you could easily finish it on a plane trip or over a lazy weekend. ‘Angels and Demons’ is a must read. There is a film adaptation coming out this year but I urge you to read the book first as a lot of elements will be lost in translation, as is usually the case.
