MacGyver returns to his old college to help judge the barricade contest, which is a physics competition. It’s called the Fizzics Follies, and there are four finalists, including the son of the professor. Unfortunately, the father and son don’t see eye to eye, and the son is under a lot of pressure to live up to his Nobel Prize-winning father’s

The four have some great ideas on how to make a barricade, and it’s actually fascinating to see how these rooms are created and then how they manage to get through the barricades.

However, one of the students cheats and, at first, gets the credit for winning. At that point, the professor’s son becomes distraught and disappears. Soon, though, MacGyver ...

      • realizes that the winner had cheated, and the son is named the winner. Only by then, the boy has gone over the edge, creating a barricade with an explosive as an element. The situation is more than dire when the professor reports to MacGyver that there is plutonium in the office above his.

MacGyver: Hell Week becomes very angsty here,

but it plays out nicely. Lisa Wilcox plays Janet, the boy’s girlfriend, and she’s very good here. Wilcox was also seen in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where she made an impression as Yuta, the traitorous food tester.

This is a fairly decent episode overall. The professor is a little over the top, but that’s a minor note.
