The final season of MacGyver ends with an episode called For Love or Money, in which MacGyver is forced to team up with a woman he dislikes. Her name is Diana Rogers, and three years earlier, they’d worked together and things hadn’t been up to Mac’s liking. He almost doesn’t agree to go on this assignment, but Pete convinces him that a man’s life is at stake. Thus, Mac and Diana pretend to be

husband and wife and enter Chzecloslovokia to pull off the rescue.

Deborah Adair plays the beautiful Diana. She has charm and intelligence and plays her role with confidence.

Mac and Diana bicker for quite a while. Right before Mac goes off to begin his part of the plan, Diana kisses him. There’s still bickering going on and the kiss wasn’t really romantic, but watching it just now, it seemed very off. It was forced and ...

      • even with the dialog to explain it away, it just didn’t work. It’s out of place for this part of the story.

There’s a prolonged science sequence where we watch Mac make a smoke bomb and a nitroglycerin bomb. He has a great line about if anyone bumps into him it would be memorable. This scene is a tad too long, though, even for a MacGyver episode.

Next up as the story progresses, Mac, Diana, and

their freed man go after his wife, who is being held elsewhere. Along the way, Mac ties up a man with duct tape. When Diana questions him about having duct tape, he says, “Never leave home without it.” That’s such standard and stereotypical MacGyver after all these years that it’s funny to listen to.

There’s a twist to the ending that I’ve always remembered. It’s well done and keeps the excitement going right through to the end.
