I suppose season two just isn’t as fun for me as season one of MacGyver was. This is another show that just doesn’t quite tickle my fancy as some others do. It’s plenty watchable, with good moments, but it’s another old flame returning, and not just for Mac, but for Pete, too. Oddly, both exes are nuns; well, one

is a nun and the other is about to be, something Mac doesn’t quite know when he first runs into Debra Easton, played by Marilyn Jones. At least Pete knows about his ex-love before he arrives. His Sister Margaret is pure nun, habit and all.

The episode’s title is The Road Not Taken, which obviously refers to the choices made, both in the past and in the present, by everyone involved. It’s been eight years since Mac has seen Debra, who split right as he had been about to propose.

The reason for the reunion is that Sister Margaret and her bundle of orphans need rescuing from their plight in Southeast Asia.

On the MacGyverism list, I adore his cave alarm. It’s ingenious.

I sure wish I could think of stuff the way MacGyver does.

The best line is delivered about halfway through by a helicopter pilot. In their escape attempt, Mac and Debra are left behind, but Pete, Sister Margaret, and the orphans manage to get aboard the helicopter and head for safety, only the helicopter is damaged by the government troops trying

to stop them. As they head for the border, the pilot calls out to Margaret and says, “Sister, if you’ve got a direct line upstairs, put in a call.” I love that line.

Overall, as I said, not really a show that is for me, but there’s the usual drama, action, and obligatory kiss before things straight out at the end.
