Tonight was the big elimination where another contestant’s dream of being the American Idol came to an end. Before that happened, all kinds of other stuff happened first. It was Country Week, which the singers all performing country songs, except for Adam Lambert, who did his own thing.

The best part for me was the return of Carrie Underwood, who is still grateful for the role American Idol had in making her a star. Recently, Carrie was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry, and that’s pretty cool, especially considering she’s still relatively new to being

a success. The show did a nice feature on her stint on Idol and some of the things that have happened since then. After that, she did a duet with Randy Travis, who has the celebrity advisor to the contestants this week.

Randy Travis had great success in the country field, and then country took a left turn and left him behind. He’s hanging in there and is still a name, but his style of country isn’t often appreciated in this era. He sang a duet with Carrie, which the two have apparently recorded.

      • In fact, tonight was the first time that they sang it live. The song features Carrie heavily, but it still has a couple of nice moments between the two. It would have been nice to have a bit more of Randy in the song, though.

Brad Paisley sang on the show, too, but he sounded a little off to me. The man is a great performer as a rule, so I’m curious why he didn’t seem to be on his game during the show.

As for the big vote off, the bottom three were Michael Sarver, Alexis

Grace, and Allison, but it was Alexis who had to sing for her life and see if she could get the judges to use their new privilege of saving a voted off contestant. It’s something they can do one time before the final five are chosen. Judge Simon Cowell had said that they were considering saving Alexis, but her repeat song performance was as bad tonight as it was last night during the regular performances. She had a shot, but it was just a weakened performance.

It was an entertaining hour, and now it’s on to next week.
