MacGyver: Nightmares is another good episode that is a little more close to home than most of Mac’s missions. This time, the villains inject our hero with a hallucinogenic drug that will kill him within six hours unless he turns over crucial information to them, after which they’ll give him the antidote. What they

don’t anticipate is Mac freeing himself from the jail in which they’ve confined him.

Out on the street, Mac is affected by the drug. He has trouble remembering and focusing, the drug really impacting his ability to function. Luckily, he’s taken in by a Lisa Allen, a gal he’d helped earlier on the wharf. Allen is played by Tammy Lauren, who has a long history of television appearances.

This episode is the first one to include Dana Elcar as Pete Thornton who works for the government at this point. The mission Mac was on was done at Pete’s request and Mac jokes that it should get Pete a promotion.

Lisa ends up contacting Pete on Mac’s behalf.

There’s not a whole lot of dialog in this hour, and while there is action, it’s at a slower pace. What we do get is a lot of MacGyver with blurry visions and struggling to walk. Now we know that Mac is gutsy and that he has

a strong will, but I’ve never been sure about this back and forth like we get in this episode, where he’s practically falling down one second and then doing some pretty incredible moves the next. Adrenaline and will go a long way, I suppose.

It’s a decent episode, but not a huge favorite in the grand scheme of shows.
