Lilies of the Field is a classic motion picture that considers to reach the hearts of viewers. Sidney Poitier starred in the movie as a drifter who stops to get water for his car and ends up helping some German nuns to build their chapel. It’s quite the unexpected journey, for him and for those watching.

      Poitier plays

Homer Smith, an intelligent and proud young man who just can’t manage to get away from the nuns, especially the mother superior who has quite the attitude. She has a reason for her toughness, and beneath the rough exterior, she has a big dream — the chapel. She’s prayed for help, and she’s determined that Homer Smith ...

      • is just the man to provide it.

Lilies of the Field is riveting in all the right ways. It’s dramatic, inspiring, and humorous, too.

Smith becomes invested in the chapel, in spite of himself, and the chapel becomes a very special project for him personally, a contribution that he builds himself. This makes the film personal, especially to those who

dream of accomplishing something that is bigger than themselves.

This is a simple but powerful film that has superb acting. It’s a limited cast, but a great one. The ending is emotional and makes you want more. I always find myself wondering what happens next, for Homer Smith and for the nuns.

Great movie, one I never tire of watching.
