Stargate SG-1: The Quest Part 1 is the mid-season cliffhanger meant to keep us waiting with baited breath for the second half of the season.

SG-1 is hot on the trail of Merlin’s anti-Ori weapon, and their goal is to get their before Ba’al does. They join up with the keeper of Merlin’s library, who then takes them into the woods when an Ori Prior shows up. There, they

run across villagers who are frozen in place. It’s actually a time dilation device, and Sam has to carefully guide them through it.

Then they found Ba’al, sitting on a treasure chest. Before they know it, they are entrapped in a forcefield and only manage to free themselves when they each give up something personal, placing it in the chest.

As they approach the caves where they believe Merlin’s device ...

      • to be, Daniel calls the library keeper out. It seems he caught on a while ago that the old man isn’t an old man. Indeed, it was Adria, who for some reason isn’t using much of her powers against SG-1 or Ba’al at the moment.

A few tests later, Daniel and Adria are separated from the others are left to fight over the orb they believe is Merlin’s device,

only it’s just a hologram. Before they can react, the entrance closes, stranding them inside, ending the first half of this disastrous final season of SG-1.

The only positive thing in this show is just watching Daniel do his thing. He’s best when he’s solving mysteries and puzzles, when he’s thinking outside the box, and he does that here, so that’s the only reason the show gets even the rating it does.
