Season ten of Stargate SG-1 plods forward with an episode called Company of Thieves. About the best moment here is when Daniel is in control of the Odyssey. Of course, he’s flown the Prometheus and various Goa’uld vessels, so commanding the Odyssey should be a piece of cake. There is a fun moment when he

tells Lt. Marks that he should probably be prepared to fire, and Marks responds back that he’s always prepared and indicates that all he has to do is press this little button. It’s cute and probably the saving grace of the entire episode.

The rest of the show is spy game time, with Mitchell going under cover in ...

      • the Lucian Alliance, culminating in war being virtually declared between the Alliance and Earth.

The worst thing is just how far off the Daniel Jackson character becomes yet again. He’s glib and sarcastic, and he’s playing straight man and comedy relief for Vala. Daniel has changed. He watches people die and just doesn’t think anything about

it. It’s wrong. Michael Shanks made such a bad decision to allow Daniel to shift the way he did. He’s such a good actor. He could have prevented this disaster, and it saddens me that he took the easy way out instead of fighting for the character to retain his true function and essence.
