No, it’s not as good as Purple Rain. No, Prince is not a great actor. And no, the storyline is really pretty stale.

But it’s Prince, for God-sakes. Who didn’t want to see a movie with Prince in it, in the 80’s.

      Under the Cherry Moon

followed the smash hit Purple Rain. And while Prince did very little talking in the Purple film, he was incredibly cheeky in this movie, which I found refreshing when I watched it at the time.

Prince lives in the French Riviera with his comrade Tricky, played by The Time’s Jerome Benton. Now, for two heterosexual playboys, I found a LOT ...

      • of their interactions really really intimate.

That was a little strange. But again–it’s Prince, so who cares? Really nice to see is an incredibly young Kristin Scott Thomas who plays a vapid debutante with whom Christopher Tracy (Prince) falls madly in love.

The movie was filmed in black and white. Had it been in color, I don’t

think it would have worked at all.

I think that Prince was going for a really retro feel, which was completely accomplished. It’s a film that really holds no serious merit.

But again– IT’S PRINCE. At any rate, it’s an entertaining film for any real Prince fan.

It’s like watching a 98-minute long music video with a lot of style.
