If ever there was a movie with sublime subtle humor, this is it. High Fidelity showcases the glib gibberish of John Cusack, and the off-center wet humor that Jack Black is so famous for.

      It was absolutely the perfect

      combination.

John Cusack plays Rob, a young record store owner who is in the midst of a painful breakup with his live-in girlfriend.

I am wondering why, however, the director chose little known foreign actress Iben Hjejle to play Laura.

I felt that she was ...

      • odd, and slightly off for the role.

But because she’s not in too many scenes it was tolerable.

At any rate, the movie centers around Rob’s Top Five Breakups that he’s ever had.

He speaks directly into the camera.

        So you feel

as if you’re right there in the situation with him.

The dialogue is dreary and sarcastic and wonderful.

Even the interwoven snippets of music fit right into the storyline.

High Fidelity is one of those movies that people who like dry, dark humor are bound to enjoy.
