Ok, so this movie was enjoyable. But I have to be honest and say that it was really not as thrilling as it could have been.

Meg Ryan usually portrays insipid airheads in romantic comedies.

      I think that she was

going for a really different kind of role in In the Cut.

However, because America is not used to seeing her be overtly sexual, her character was not that believable.

In the movie’s defense, the cinematography is absolutely stunning.

Mark Ruffalo’s character, an icky yet sexy cop named Detective ...

      • Malloy, is perfect opposite Frannie (Ryan).

But again, the magnetism between these characters seems artificial, despite the intense love scenes.

The story itself is vacant of any real depth, as far as crime thrillers go.

There just wasn’t enough “glue” to hold the story together.

        While casting

Jennifer Jason Leigh as Ryan’s sister was a smart move, the audience didn’t get to connect with her character (Pauline) much.

So, having her in the film ultimately seemed pointless.

Come to think of it, I think the movie would have been much better had Jennifer played Frannie instead of Meg Ryan.
