This is one weird little movie. Of course it’s full of great actors like Gene Hackman, who really steals the show. Gwyneth Paltrow and Anjelica Huston are actually my favorite characters in the movie.

Gwyneth plays Margot Tenenbaum, the adopted daughter of Gene and Anjelica. And she

has this thick “Wednesday” (of the Addams Family) appeal.

She’s dry, and dark-and adds just the right amount of sarcasm to the role. Hackman, of course plays the stoic, yet hilarious father.

I don’t really know how to describe this movie outside of saying that it centers around a family of child prodigies who’ve grown up to become the most unusual ...

      • adults. Perhaps Ben Stiller and his brood of boys are the funniest: They dress alike, and possess the same anal-retentive glee of their father.

The only difference is that the boys long to play like other kids. For this reason, they love their Grandpa Royal (Hackman).

Ironically, Danny Glover assumes the role of Etheline’s (Huston) new lover.

And the glib battle between he and Hackman is hilarious.

Ultimately, each one of the Tenenbaum children has a special relationship with Royal. And there are truly some touching and tender moments inside this odd film.

This movie really isn’t for everyone. You really have to think outside the box, and let the absurdity and sarcasm work together.
