Our mixed lab pointer puppy Sydney became an official member of our family when we adopted her right before Christmas. She came to us from a rescue organization as a foster puppy. I saw her picture and was immediately smitten with her innocent sad look. The caption said she was a sweet mellow puppy.

We brought Sydney home and she immediately rolled over requesting a belly rub. She adapted very quickly to our family, and is the ultimate couch potato. She has a

loving disposition, loves all people and still requests daily belly rubs. She loves the park, water,(especially our bathtub when we are not looking) sleeping in our son’s bed and cuddling with all of us on the couch, although at 10 months she weighs close to 70 pounds!

Since we did not know much about the pointer breed, we researched it several weeks ago. Much to our surprise and chagrin, we found that she is a carbon copy of the pointer breed’s personality traits. They are very affectionate,

      • want to be with the family, couch potatoes, love water and are a hunting breed (Sydney the gentle giant got her first bird the other day, although we are nowhere near a woods) She has learned to be a very obedient dog, and will sit, stay, lay down and is potty trained. She even lets us wipe her paws on the mat before she comes inside. We have also discovered she can hurdle a chain link fence and clear it quite nicely according to our son, but
fortunately she doesn’t want to leave us, so she stays put in our back yard. She is a great watchdog and will lay in front of the door to make sure no one comes in who is not supposed to. She has become a wonderful watchdog and has barked “ferociously” to alert me to people at the door even before they approached.

If you are a lover of large breed dogs, a pointer is a great family dog who will give you years of laughs and love!
