Superstars of Dance, hosted by Irish dance great, Michael Flatley, has really been fascinating to watch. In this unique competition show, dancers from eight countries have faced off against one another in team dance, pairs, and solos.

The show could have been a political disaster, with the judges all focusing on their self-interests, meaning their own countries. Instead, dance has come first. There is an allowance made for

personal preference, but I haven’t noticed any of these dance judges voting party lines, so to speak. It’s been a pleasure to see that, even if it’s not necessarily my favorites who are winning.

The great thing about Superstars of Dance is that it is showing the world different styles of dance. We’ve been exposed to cultural flavors that we might not otherwise see. It’s been as educational as it has been entertaining.

On the down side, while the judges have been pretty fair and welcoming of the new dances, many of the coaches are just wearing blinders and are sometimes quite rude

in their comments when their dancers don’t get the high marks. That’s been the most disappointing. It’s one thing to support your group, but when it’s obvious that you’re blind by your own vanity, that’s another thing.

Superstars of Dance is coming to a close for its first season soon. I hope it comes back. I love the scoring system and how they work the grand tally. Great show!
