This movie was a sequel to the 2003 comedy classic “Bruce Almighty”, but it did absolutely no justice to “Bruce”. “Evan Almighty” was sheer disappointment from start to finish.

The usually hilarious Steve Carell returns as Evan Baxter, his character from the first movie. In this film, he has just been elected to Congress, and he moves his family to Virginia. Soon, strange things begin

to happen: animals mysteriously follow him; he keeps growing a persistent beard; and old-fashioned tools show up at his house.

Soon he encounters “God” (Morgan Freeman) who instructs him to build an arc, as Noah did. God says a great flood will arrive on September 22nd. Thus begins Evan’s arduous task of building a massive boat and collecting animals, at the scorn of everyone who ...

      • knows him. Evan’s sons begin to help him, but his wife thinks he’s crazy.

Evan’s career is put in jeopardy when animals follow him to Congress. He tries to explain that he was selected by God to build an arc, but his boss doesn’t buy it, and Evan is suspended. When Evan’s wife abandons him and takes the boys with her, Evan must finish the

        arc alone against all odds.

This movie was a disaster. The plot was faulty, the writing was bad, and the premise was frankly ridiculous. This movie should not have been made: it’s actually an insult to its predecessor. Steve Carell is an incredibly talented and funny actor, but he wasn’t given much to work with in this disappointing film. I don’t recommend wasting your time.
