A surprisingly funny and charming movie, “Ghost Town” tells the story of Bertram Pincus, an unpleasant dentist reminiscent of Ebenezer Scrooge. His attitude toward life: bah, humbug. When he dies briefly on the operating table, he wakes up with the unwanted ability to see ghosts. It doesn’t take long for the ghosts

of the city to find out, and soon Pincus’ private life is constantly (and sometimes rudely) interrupted by spirits with last requests.

Pincus is the opposite of a people-person. He doesn’t care about anyone, living or dead. This is a transformation plot, and we see Pincus slowly warm up to the world around ...

      • him, especially when he falls in love. He honors the spirits’ last requests, grudgingly at first; then with more passion.

At first, he’s an unpleasant character; I loved to hate him. He had no respect for anyone around him. He was selfish and stubborn. But as love begins to melt his cold heart,

he realizes how lonely and empty his life truly is. Finally, he learns that there’s something to be said for a lack of privacy: it also means a lack of loneliness.

“Ghost Town” is a beautiful and well-written character story; it moves a bit slowly at times, but is absolutely worth the watch.
