“Father of the Bride” is a movie starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Kimberly Williams as the father, the mother, and the soon-to-be bride, respectively. It is apparently a remake of the movie by the same name from the 1950s that I have never watched.

Pros: Steve Martin was still funny back when this movie was

made. He is likeable and charming and you just immediately sympathize with him, because everyone else is going crazy and he is trying to keep it together. Also, Kimberly Williams is very cute as his daughter Annie. She is also really cool. She even plays basketball one-on-one with her dad. You ...

      • can imagine the bonding moments they had over the years doing that.

Cons: The wedding planner, played by Martin Short is super annoying. He almost ruins the entire movie. I understand needing some sort of foil for Martin’s character, but why does he have to be so utterly annoying? Also, the

movie plays into society’s emphasis on lavish weddings and ridiculously overpriced wedding flowers, food, dresses, etc. As a logical person, and a man, it drives me crazy.

Overall: This would be a lot more watchable without Martin Short. Still, Steve Martin’s charm pulls it through. I give it a 6 out of 10.
