This was the second serial in season eight of Doctor Who and the first to employ the 7-part format, a decision that would eventually prove to be a mistake. When a contruction worker is killed by what appears to

be a dinosaur, The doctor heads deep down into a cave and discovers the underground race of Silurians, reptile men who had been hybernating for a million years and now want to conquer the earth. The Doctor wants to ...

      • make peace between the Silurians and humans, but not only to the Silurians want war, the humans want to genocide the Silurians as well. A brilliant episode and one of the greatest in the series history. It is a
tad two long mainly because of a lame bio-warfare subplot. The tone of this episode RADICALLY departs from the comical AUTONS episode and takes a gritty, stark realism that would be rejected by the viewing public. Despite the Quality, ratings dropped considerably.
