Stargate SG-1: Out of Mind is the final episode of the second season, and it’s the first part of a cliff hanger. It brings with it a tragic loss. I mourn it to this day. Alas, it was the end of the shag, of Michael Shanks’ long, silky hair. In real life, Shanks was in rehearsals to star in Hamlet on stage during the off season.

Hamlet, it seems, wouldn’t look good with a shaggy mane. So, the character of Daniel Jackson inexplicably lost his locks, and when he shows up in Stargate SG-1: Out of Mind, he has short, short hair.

To compensate for this shock to the fans, I am absolutely convinced that Shanks’ first scene was costumed with precision, that it was a calculated move. You see, in his opening scene, he’s uncharacteristically ...

      • shirtless. He’s wet and all chest. Hear the fans swoon! They didn’t have a chance to think about his hair having been cut, which, by the way, never even ranked a mention on the show. It was a drastic change, so you would have thought Jack would have said something, anything, or even Sam, but, nope. The shag was gone forever.

As for the rest of the

costumes, I have to say that I liked the futuristic style they used for the military uniforms. It’s all the result of a little game the Goa’uld are playing, but watching it unfold is somewhat fun.

The last scene is probably my favorite. I just love the little ’shoo shoo’ thing that Daniel does when he sees who is responsible for all that has happened. It’s an intriguing cliff hanger.
