On June 3 and 4th I had the pleasure of attending St. Anthony’s Annual Polish Festival. Hosted in the Church Hall of St.

Anthony’s Church on Farrell Street in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Canada, this festival offered something for everyone. Despite the rain, (which went on all weekend) this fund-raising festival was bustling.

Dartmouth has a vibrant, Polish Catholic community and they invited the rest of us to

join in their festivities. The food was spectacular! I tried the Polish sausage’s with sauerkraut on a bun, their perogies were definately home made with cottage cheese and sour cream, and their Polish beer, well what can you say….

Crafts made by the Polish ladies were the highlight of the festival. I purchased a beautiful hand painted yellow flowered egg for only $3.

      50 and a hand made,

      • hand painted clay vase in blue with flowers for only $10. The crafts were worth far, far more, but were being sold cheaply to make money for Church programs.

If you have never heard Polish folk music, you should. It is alternatively very joyful and very sorrowful, going from one extreme emotion to the other.

Dancing by the Pomoroze dancers took place every half hour from noon

till four pm each day and was well worth seeing. The History of Poland’s struggles and successess were told through folk dance.

I had never been to a Polish festival before, but encourage anyone who can go to one, to go. What a fabulous cultural experience!

        St.

Anthony’s holds their annual Polish festival the first weekend in June each year. I just hope it doesn’t rain next year, so there will be more to participate in!
