I would like to know about the ingredients used in London Dairy Ice Cream. Wether they are Kosher (Halal) OR not? If halal we will eat and recommend to others as well.

Best Regards,

Hi Dr. Muhammad,

If you check on Halal Trade Gateway site, London Ice Cream is being manufactured by Unipex Dairy Product Co. Ltd and they did not state that this particular brand is kosher or halal and have obtained clear certification for halal yet. See link:
Dr. Muhammad Arshad says :

Hello Everybody:

To increase the business in the Muslim world, London Dairy should obtain Halal certification from the respectable institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia. However, I read somewhere on the webpage of Unipex Dairy Products Co. Ltd that if their ice cream or other products have a green dot on it then it is good for consumption by the vegetarians as it does not have animal ingredients in it. However, it is utmost important for the London Dairy that they should obtain Halal certification from the respectable institutions in Indonesia and Malaysia.

First thing you are required to do is to look at the pack itself. If there is a Green Dot under a square, then the product doesn’t contain non vegetarian stuff. If it contains Red Dot under a square, then it is non vegetarian.

The next thing whether it is halal or not. If the product is being sold in a Muslim countries, then there is high probability that it is halal. The manufacturer has already gotten relevant Halal certification in almost all Arab Countries, along with some South East Asian Countries. In European countries, it is non Halal.

Sir, I would like to know a few details about some of the ingredients of your ice cream products in U.A.E. I would like to inquire the source of the following enzymes, i.e. whether animal or vegetarian based. E477. E471, E410, E412, E440, E150d. I would appreciate it highly if you could tell me whether those enzymes are from animals or vegetables. Thanking you in advance, Muhammad J. Motiwala, M.D.
Galega says :

All of these are sourced from animals. Some like E471 is not strictly non vegetarian fat. However, sometimes, it can also include animal fats.

If you are ethical and want to avoid non vegetarian stuff at any cost, then you should avoid all of them.

how is ice cream made?
Galega says :

The basic process of manufacturing ice cream is same. The difference lies in the middle of the process according to the flavor and variant of the desired product.

In its most basic form, ice cream is a mixture of cream and/or milk, sugar and sometimes eggs that is frozen while being churned to create a frozen product. In commercial ice-cream making, stabilizers, such as plant gums, are usually added and the mixture is pasteurized and homogenized.

I also enjoyed the London Dairy premium Ice Cream.
Every afternoon I take a couple of spoonfuls. I find chocolate a bit to sweet for ice cream. With the vanilla flavor goes well with everything. I even put a small drop into my coffee.
