I got the first season of the show Monk for Christmas and finally got a chance to watch the very first episode again; Mr. Monk and the Candidate.

      This is a fantastic episode.

Even though I do wish they would have spent a bit more time talking about the death of his

wife and how it affected him (they just mention it briefly in a meeting with clients), the episode does a great job introducing all the main characters.

Unlike the later episodes, I actually preferred the first season because, rather than having the police asking him to solve every murder for them, they ...

      • don’t want him around.

Some of the funniest moments in this series came when he walked in on a crime scene and spotted something 20 police detectives didn’t notice and turned accidents into murders.

The later episodes have him hardly working at all and there are even some where the captain solves

        the case.

        What’s the fun in that?

I’m not a big Sharona fan (I always found her a bit annoying) but even she had a decent part in this episode; especially when it came to explaining his condition.

I think this is an episode every Monk fan should own and watch whenever they get a chance.
