“Kung Fu Panda” is a 2008 animated film about Po, a fat noodle-selling Panda in China who loves kung fu and dreams of a more exciting life. It is a Dreamworks film, which means it has some decent animation but falls far short of a Pixar movie.

Pros: The animation in the movie is very good. This is a very dynamic

movie, with lots of action and great fight scenes. The animals all move in unique ways but the action comes fast and furious. Po is pretty likeable and his flabby physique gives him a lot of opportunities for physical comedy. Also, the main villian is very intimidating. The scene where he escapes from a top notch prison teeming with ...

      • thousands of gigantic rhino guards is the highlight of the entire movie.

Cons: The story is just not as compelling as a Pixar movie. Po seems like a nice guy, but he does not have any depth. He seems like he should be the ‘buddy’ in a ‘buddy movie.’ In other words, he should be the sidekick, but not the

main character. Also, the final fight with Po and the main villian is very disappointing. No real sense of urgency is developed, mostly because we do not care enough about the characters.

Overall: I can see young kids watching this movie over and over. It is fun and fast, but not very deep. I give it a 7 out of 10.
