This past year our family traveled to Disney World in Orlando Florida. While we were pleased to find that we had pleasant weather and adequate accommodations, we were quite disappointed in the meal plan which we had paid for in advance through our travel agency.

When planning a vacation and pre-paying for a meal plan, one would assume that for the (for our group for instance) several thousands of dollars you are paying for food and beverages, you would wind up with decent choices, reasonable portions, and fairly good dining services.

We were astonished to find that under our Disney dining plan,

just about ninety eight percent of the restaurant options were fully booked and no longer accepting reservations.

As a result, we were frequently forced to choose food choices from the fast food accommodations, rather than the sit down restaurant meals.

We also came to find that when the restaurants claimed that they were “booked” to all Disney pre-paid dining programs, that did not mean that they were actually at full capacity.

Rather, they only have a certain allowance for people who have purchased the dining program.

The rest of the seating availability is only for cash paying customers.

      In otherwords, we could ...

      • have gone to restaurant x,y, or z and said we had purchased the meal plan through Disney.

The restaurant could have only had three other parties in it at the time, but if that was all they had set aside for pre-paying meal plan customers, our party would have been unable to dine there.

Of course, this meal plan was played up to us by our travel agency as being wonderful and a huge savings and this is absolutely not Disney’s fault in any way, but the entire program at large was a huge headache for our entire party to contend with while on

        vacation.

Not only is it poorly advertised, but there were restaurants on the dining list, who then claimed to not be participaing in the plan, your choices are very limited, and in general, if you wind up eating at fast food restaurants, you wind up over-paying, rather than saving money.

I would discourage anyone from purchasing one of these dining plans to avoid complications and headaches while traveling with Disney.

While the parks and facilities may be nicely maintained and the entire area may be relaxing, when you have to devote endless hours to figuring out meals and drinks, it hardly seems like a relaxing vacation.
