  • I know kittens can be little stinkers and most people just assume that cats stink in their litter boxes
  • Well I have had previous cats including one that had developed painful crystals in her bladder, I think because of the poor quality dry kibble food that I had been feeding them so I decided to avoid the problem
  • So I did some researching and got some pretty good coupons to help cut the cost of the more expensive and reputedly better quality food
  • After checking on the cat and cleaning up the mess, I phoned the vet to schedule her in asap the next morning since the vet is an hour and a half away and she wasn't in dire need, in fact if not for the mess in my room I wouldn't have suspected a problem so quickly
  • I would not recommend Purina Brand Kitten Food to anyone who loves their cat not even to anyone who wishes to be economical by saving a few dollars

When I brought home my two absolutely adorable kittens the person we got them from gave us the remainder bag of food they had been eating. I also purchased an additional bag of the same brand food assuming it would be best to stick with what they were used to eating as per the usual advice.

I know kittens can be little stinkers and most people just assume that cats stink in their litter boxes. Well I have had previous cats including one that had developed painful crystals in her bladder, I think because of the poor quality dry kibble food that I had been feeding them so I decided to avoid the problem. I planned to invest in some better quality cat food than the Purina. So I did some researching and got some pretty good coupons to help cut the cost of the

more expensive and reputedly better quality food. Then I joined the Purina Kitten club and received two coupons for free Purina Kitten food. Being low on cash at the time, I got those two bags. Half way thru the first bag I came home after being out for a few hours to discover my female cat had been locked in my bedroom by mistake. While locked in my room, she had had an accident. There was bloody diarrhea and bloody urine all over my floor and such. After checking on the cat and cleaning up the mess, I phoned the vet to schedule her in asap the next morning since the vet is an hour and a half away and she wasn’t in dire need, in fact if not for the mess in my room I wouldn’t have suspected a problem so quickly.

      • The vet examined the cat and also a fecal sample. She was dehydrated and obviously unwell. After leaving her over night for IV fluids, worming (as a precautionary measure) and medicine, I picked my cat up the next day. It cost me $117 for the vet care. The advice was to give her the medication for 10 days, try to increase her wet food intake and if I was to continue feeding her dry kibble to purchase a better quality food. So for the bucks I saved on those two free bags of cat food it ended up costing me over a hundred dollars in vet bills. You see, my cat has colitis which I didn’t know and feeding such a poor quality food (well mediocre at best) caused serious irritation to her bowels. Had I stuck to the kitten food I had

been feeding her, this would not have happened.

Overall, the Purina Kitten food brand kitten food is an alright food for a lesser price if you don’t take into account the price of the vet bills that poor nutrition causes. It is very easy for a cat or kitten to develop digestive issues because of lesser quality food. Not enough fiber, too much filler and other irritating by products definitely do not get my “vote” for a quality nutritious cat food. I would not recommend Purina Brand Kitten Food to anyone who loves their cat not even to anyone who wishes to be economical by saving a few dollars. It is simply not worth it in the end, cost wise or in the amount of pain and discomfort caused to the cat.

Don’t buy this food spend a few more dollars for something of better quality.

Thank you for posting a review that is honest and not just a recycling of commercials, ads, and the back of a Purina bag.
