Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES, unlike number 2, is a big step forward from the original Mario. Gameplay is basically the same, and you get the fast running and jumping of the original Mario.

There is nothing carried over from Mario 2, which is good because that game was terrible. For Mario 3 they added more items like a flight cloak, money, and warp flutes.

They also added a "world" system where you take a path between levels. It just makes it seem a little bit more real than the old Mario game.

If you like the original Mario Brothers and Super Mario Brothers for SNES you will like Mario Brothers 3 because it is basically in between the two in terms of development. The overall feeling of the game, running an jumping through 2D levels, jumping on enemies, and riding on moving platforms is all what you are probably used to and it's very fun.

Super Mario 3 is one of my favorite games.
