The WCG200 wireless cable modem from Linksys is one of the least product that I would like to have. I mean, I don’t really like it because there are lots of software that really don’t work on it. One example is when you want to connect your Play Station 2 or XBOX live to your wireless network. It works most of the time but once it stopped working, it will not work no matter how you reset the device then

      reconfigure it from scratch.

The main problem with this product is it doesn’t have MTU size in which most of the time, XBOX recommends lowering it to a specific value and to forward the ports numbers as well. It seems that there is no specific solution for this with this product since Linksys is no longer creating or modifying a new firmware version for this. However, most cable company like COX and Comcast recommends this to the customer since it ...

      • is one of the modem that they provide.

I spent two hours in a call as well with its WPA encryption problem with our Linksys WRE54G range expander. The Linksys cable modem router does not seem to synchronize with the wireless range expander when the WPA encryption is enabled. If it has no security or using WEP only it would work which is not really recommended nowadays since WEP is vulnerable as for encryption.

The only solution at that time is

to replace it with another cable gateway wireless modem or buy a new wireless G router which the client preferred since the WCG200 is somewhat an older version of all the G routers.

If you just want pure Internet and wireless connectivity then this is the product for you since it is a combo modem and wireless router but if you want to play online games or connect a game console, it may really give you a headache. Just my one cent!
