The University of Tsukuba is a nice choice if you are thinking of studying in Japan. I am a former student of this university and all-in-all I like it. In my review, I would like to share with you my experiences and give an overall image of the university.

      Location

The university is located in Tsukuba City, 60 km from Tokyo. The transportation is really convenient, you can get to Akihabara/Tokyo (the world capital of manga and anime) in 45 minutes

by Tsukuba Express. It is a bit expensive though, it costs about 1200 Japanese yen.

      Ranking of the university

Tsukuba University has a good reputation in Japan. Let’s call it upper-middle class. There are three Nobel laureates teaching there. In addition to that, originally it was Tokyo University of Education so in case you are interested in becoming a teacher (e.g. a Japanese teacher) Tsukuba University is the right place for you.

      Life in Tsukuba

Tsukuba is a large city with many research ...

      • centers and great pubs to relax after a hard day at school. Although there are very nice places to chill out, since distances are huge it is very useful to have a car. One of the most important things about living in Tsukuba is the low cost of apartments. It can be even one third of the price of an apartment in Tokyo.

        Campus

The university is enormous. It has its own bus system. It takes 20 minutes to go from

the center of the university to the northern parts. There are many sculptures, fountains, lakes and green places, not to mention the beautiful cherry trees.

        Student community

Since there is a huge percentage of foreigners in the university you can easily find friends for a lifetime. On top of that, there are different activities for foreigners to get to know Japanese culture more.

I wish you good luck with choosing your university when studying in Japan and hope to see you one day. Cheers!
