      TRUSTWORTHY

Another classic case of name brand versus generic does a higher price paired with a well-known name mean better quality? Sometimes, yes. But when it comes to cough syrup, save your money and go with the trustworthy equate Tussin CF. With an immune system like mine in a colder climate, I

find myself relying on cough syrup to suppress coughing and prevent a cold from developing into something more serious, such as bronchitis, multiple times throughout the year. Usually, this is paired with a stuffy nose or even a sinus infection. I used to buy Robotussin exclusively, but to save money I found myself trying the ...

      • equate brand, readily available anywhere that sells cough syrup and of almost half the price of Robotussin. Not only does it contain the exact same doses of the same ingredients and work just as well, I even liked the taste better! I have found that this cough syrup quite often gives me the boost I
need to keep on working despite a nasty cold, and while taking it during a cold I have never developed worsening symptoms that lead to complications such as bronchitis. Save yourself both the cost of the name brand and the trouble of further infection, and when it comes to treating cough and cold, go with equate Tussin CF.

    Hi,

Medicines like this are generally meant adults and children who are at least 12 years old. The ingredients are strong and are mixed in dosages that are specifically designed for older children and adults. Giving your child even a small dose of this medication could have severe-lasting effects on your toddler’s developing system. It is probably best not to give this to any child under the age of 12 without consulting a pediatrician. The side effects could be hazardous.

A chart of dosage amounts on the back of the bottle notes that this medicine should not be given to children under the age of 4.

    Hi Shannon,

The bottle that I have is a “natural cherry” flavor. Unless the bottle says otherwise, I think that the original flavor does use cherry flavoring in the mix.

I would stop taking the medicine immediately and see a doctor if the reaction is bad. Otherwise, I would still see a pharmacist to help you find a cough medicine that doesn’t contain cherry flavor.

I believe that the original version of Nyquil is cherry free, but I am not completely sure. I would definitely inquire with a pharmacist or doctor.

    Hope this helps,

    Sincerely,

    Joanna
