Starring: Joshua Leonard (Clark Stevens), Jordan Ladd (Sara), Lance Henriksen (Dr Franks), Dendrie Taylor (Nurse Hendricks)

It is rather scary when you think that the shadows you see from the corner of your eyes are not real, but a figment of your imagination. Ben London (one of the high-risk inmates) said ‘Now you know what madness feels like’

So are there really ghosts or do they exist within our minds?

Clark Stevens came to serve his internship at Cunningham Hall, a mental institution. He was introduced to the staff, among them Sara, a pretty resident, Dr Franks the administrator and Nurse Hendricks. Sara gave him a tour of the facility and showed him the basement, which housed the high security risk patients. Clark noticed the rundown conditions of the institution, and the strong-arm tactics employed to control the patients. He soon got very interested in Ben London, a dangerous patient who often remained in the shadows, unwilling to show himself. Weird things were happening mysterious sounds, a strange kid running around the corridors at night and later on, vicious killings.

      • Madhouse
After the suspicious suicide of a patient, Clark discovered that the patients’ medication were in reality sugar placebos. Everyone seemed to have dark secrets; it turned out that Clark had his own as well.

The killings were grisly, macabre and bloody, especially that of Nurse Hendricks. The high risk patients were a bit overdone they looked more like

those heavily made up artistes from the 70s-80s. There were unexpected twists; the clues had led me to suspect someone else to be the murderer. The acting was good; Joshua Leonard looked and acted every inch the clean, rather dorky intern, but I am surprised he could not diagnose Sara’s illness from her behavior. Nevertheless, this movie is brutal and wickedly entertaining!
