  • Trivium come back to their roots of pure metal and take a step away from the experimental The Crusade, with the help of producer Nick Raskulinecz they cut the frills on this album and do a good job keeping it heavy, this album is more aggressive than Ascendancy and way more aggressive than Ember to Inferno, the musicianship is tighter, they are becoming a better band and it shows on every song, they use seven string guitars in standard tuning on this album, the songs are longer and they didn't sell out and do any radio songs this time along (ie dying in your arms) not that these things are always bad, but they are a dime a dozen and can be found anywhere, while few people would admit it this album is an album that will be remembered for years to come and its a breath of fresh air to metal fans everywhere, I was worried this band was finished after The Crusade, it's a huge relief to me they got their balls back on this album, I don't really have a favorite track because I really like the album as a whole, there is also a special edition with 3 bonus track and a dvd, 2 originals and the Iron Maiden cover Iron Maiden, nothing to get to hyped up about but not a bad addition really, if you really love this album get the special edition
