  • This food is a good, low priced food that in my opinion is the best choice for someone who wants a decent dog food without the expense
  • Basically the reason why I decided to switch my own dogs over to another food was because of the corn in Exceed and because my Husband and I are now able to pay more for a higher priced food
  • I know many reputable breeders and rescue groups, as well as individual dog owners, who have fed this food to their dogs for many years and have been very pleased with it

I fed my dogs Exceed Lamb and Rice for many years as a maintenance food and was truly satisfied with it, but eventually found a healthier food for my dogs. This food is a good, low priced food that in my opinion is the best choice for someone who wants a decent dog food without the expense. So far locally I have only been able to find Exceed at SAM’S Club, since it is a Member’s Mark brand, but I have been told that in some areas Walmart carries it as well. A 50# bag of kibble ran around $21 which is rather inexpensive for dog food these days. I would suggest a dog food with a little bit higher nutritional value and less grains if an owner can afford to do so, but nowadays we are all on a budget, so if you are looking for a food that is both healthy enough to safely feed your dog daily and still cheap enough to fit your

budget, then Exceed Lamb and Rice would be a good choice. I tried the other Exceed dog foods blends with my dogs and was not as happy with them as I was with the lamb and rice. The overall nutrition of the other Exceed foods is not as good as the lamb and rice blend and the protein levels of the other blends are too high to still be safe for most dogs. Personally I try to buy a dog food with the least amount of fillers and additives and the most amount of meat. Lamb is the first ingredient of the lamb and rice blend, of course, and there are very few fillers in this food but on the downside it does have a lot of corn and other grains in it. Exceed Lamb and Rice actually has almost the exact same ingredients as Eukanuba Lamb and Rice, which is a popular dog food but is much more expensive.

Basically the reason why I decided ...

      • to switch my own dogs over to another food was because of the corn in Exceed and because my Husband and I are now able to pay more for a higher priced food. I am now paying quite a bit more monthly for dog food but the overall food quality is better for my dogs. When my dogs were eating Exceed Lamb and Rice they did very well on it. They had relatively shiny, healthy coats and had plenty of energy. None of my dogs had any health problems due to the food, although Exceed had too much corn and grains in it for one of my rescue dogs to handle. Only the one rescue dog, of all my dogs, had issues with digestion while on this food and she has had many gastric problems in the past and is intolerant of many foods, so it was not just the Exceed brand that she could not handle. As long as your dog tolerates lamb, rice,
and grains then they should do just fine on this food. If you try Exceed and your dog does have problems with it I would stop it immediately, but this is the same as with any dog food. Like I said, I personally believe this is the best dog food you can buy on a budget. I did not feel as if I was denying my dogs a healthy meal by feeding Exceed Lamb and Rice and at the same time I did not have to spend extreme amounts of money to feed them. I know many reputable breeders and rescue groups, as well as individual dog owners, who have fed this food to their dogs for many years and have been very pleased with it.

There are debates out about whether the menadione in the Exceed and some other dog foods could be dangerous for our dogs, but so far everything is really just opinion and debate. On that subject you have to make your own decision.

Subject Exceed Lamb and Rice Greetings from Missouri, We are John and Dr. Carol Lossing of Exeter, Missouri. We raise champion bred English Pointers and have fed Exceed Lamb and Rice dog food for over seven years. Our Pointers have competed in both show and field competition events at the National level. Exceed has been an excellent choice for us. Before using Exceed, we tried several nationally advertised brands of dog food. Our dogs have performed better and have remained healthier on Exceed. Some of our older dogs have eaten exceed for seven years and still look forward to feeding time. Exceed is an excellent value in the operation of our kennel. Website
