I have the same question here. according to the info i found 631 is always from animals or fish. can someone please confirm me on that? in a country like india where there are so many vegetarians the companies are supposed to put it on the package if the food contains animal animal extracted products or not. we dont care what is permitted or not. for vegetarians any amount of animals is still considered animal product. Thanks

Flavour Enhancer 631 is Disodium inosinate. It used to be isolated from Bonito Fish. However, recently, it has started to be isolated from yeast.
Now, here comes the confusion. Nestle will never tell you the source - Bonito Fish or Yeast. However, I think they must be getting it from Yeast, as that is cheaper without any quality issue. What will you consider yeast - animal or non - living stuff? It is not vegetable fat, for sure.
