Planet Earth is a wild life documentary series. The catch phrase is, ‘as you’ve never seen it before’, which is nothing short of true.

The series is a set of 11, one hour documentaries with added bonus material at the end of an episode entitled, Planet Earth Diaries. This gives us a look into how a particular part of the episode was filmed.

The series does not only just concentrate on wild life. It also gives us a unique look into how the earth works, and amazing footage of rare, natural parts of the earth from the north to the South Pole.

The series covers a vast number of species, countries, and extreme natural occurrences like ocean bio-life, desserts

and volcanoes and also gives us the rare glimpse of winters in the poles. It is fascinating, each episode providing jaw dropping facts and figures like the 8 meter Manta Ray.

I found this series amazing. I have currently watched it back to back 3 times! I cannot stop watching. The camera work brings us the ability to look at things that most people will never see in their life time with facts that will make your head spin. It is truly an unbelievable programme.

Each disk contains 3 episodes (the last disc 2). The episodes are given different titles to hint at the topics that will be covered throughout the hour. For example, Pole to Pole; which ...

      • takes a look at winters and summers in the poles and the wildlife that lives there, Desserts; the extremes of the desserts, why they are desserts and the animals that have evolved and developed a unique life style in order to survive there, Shallow Seas, Great Plains, Jungles and many more. Each episode is filmed with such detail that it makes you wonder, how did they film that?

The Planet Earth Diaries are a nice addition following the episode. These will concentrate on a particular aspect of the episode that you have just seen and will show you in detail, how, when and where it was filmed, for example, the great Baobabs of Madagascar, or the Piranhas

        of Brazil.

Young or old, this series will have you hooked from the first episode. It is compelling and you feel educated about the planet that you live in, feeling and appreciating it for the balanced, delicate environment it really is. I have been instilled with a passion to see these amazing wonders in our world for myself and I intend to do so!

David Attenborough deliveries a brilliant narrative, descriptive, clear, well spoken and easy to understand, and you can hear the passion and astoundment he has in his voice for what he is speaking about.

This truly is a masterpiece and should definitely be part of any DVD collection that the whole family can enjoy time and time again.
