  • Unfortunately the zipper on the Daytripper bag broke within a week or two of receiving it
  • My daughter was tremendously disappointed, not to mention the plain old nuisance factor of having to pack up a mailorder item for return
  • When we called Norm Thompson, which had sold the bags, we were told that this was a common problem with this bag, so with visions of her finding herself in England with a broken bag, or worse yet having it break open in a baggage handling situation on her flight, we opted to return it for a refund rather than trying a second bag

My daughter received a set of Baggallini luggage from her grandmother, consisting of two handsome zippered bags in an olive color with coral trim.(They call it dark olive/spice.) The bags also came in a more neutral black and gray combination and several other colors. These bags are a heavy ripstop fabric, stain and water resistant and crinkle-patterned to look like silk.

The larger bag has wheels and a handle for pulling efficiently through airports, and a carrying strap. The smaller bag, called the “Doctor’s Bag,” has carrying handles, a traditional doctor bag shape,

and lots of little pockets inside to hold everything from a cell phone to an iPod to a passport. It is sized to fit under a plane seat. All of the bags in this line cleverly have a built-in sleeve which allows the pulling handle of any wheeled bag to be pulled through the sleeve, joining the bags quickly and securely for that run through the airport. My daughter, who plans a trip to England next summer, was delighted both with the styling of the bags and the practical qualities.

      Unfortunately the zipper ...

      • on the Daytripper bag broke within a week or two of receiving it. Actually after only one real use! And these are expensive bags! My daughter was tremendously disappointed, not to mention the plain old nuisance factor of having to pack up a mailorder item for return. When we called Norm Thompson, which had sold the bags, we were told that this was a common problem with this bag, so with visions of her finding herself in England with a broken bag, or worse yet having it break open in a baggage handling
situation on her flight, we opted to return it for a refund rather than trying a second bag. To give Norm Thompson credit, they were quick to admit the problem with the bag and paid for the return.

My daughter is now looking for a similar bag in an olive color to go with the Doctor’s Bag, which so far has performed beautifully through several weekend adventures. This means that she will not end up with a matched set of luggage for her trip, but she’s hoping for something close enough that it will all look good together.
