After 16 years, the music from the critically acclaimed “Batman: The Animated Series” is available. You won’t find this cd in stores, on Amazon, or even iTunes. To order it, you’ll have to go to

This 2 cd set does not cover the whole series, no not by a long shot. It doesn’t even cover a season. Given how long the show ran and how much music played a part in the atmosphere this is not surprising. What we do have here is the scores to about a dozen episodes.

All of it is stellar. If you’re a fan of B: TAS than this is a must buy for you. Even if you have never seen it

before (what rock have you been hiding under?) it is worth getting. Shirley Walker did an excellent job composing the score for this show. Listening to many of the tracks conjures up images and emotions from the show. It’s a fine addition to your music library.

I, personally, found the second album to be much better than the first. It’s not that the first is bad, far from it. But the second track had the soundtracks to some key episodes. The songs on disc 2 feature the leitmotifs from the villains and as such is a fascinating listen. The seven minute “Music of the Bat” track that closes the album is also intriguing as Shirley Walker explains the different ...

At first, the $30 dollar price tag sounds steep, especially with the economy being what it is, but let me assure you it is worth every penny. Heck, hearing the sad yet creepy and unnerving Two-Face tracks alone was worth it. You get almost two and a half hours of stellar music as well as liner notes from Paul Dini, Bruce Timm and others.

I would’ve liked it if they had included the tracks from “Heart of Ice” and “Mad as a Hatter” as opposed to some of the episodes they included, but as this is Volume 1 I understand why they would want to spread the notable episodes out through the different volumes.

Batman’s been blessed, not just by writers who have made him so meticulous that fans are convinced he can win any fight (and I mean any fight) as long as he has time to prepare, but by composers who understood the nuances of his world and were able to capture the essence of it with music. This album is a testament to that fact.
