I had almost forgotten just how funny Ned Flanders can be until coming across the older Simpsons episode entitled “Viva Ned Flanders. ” This is actually one of the better episodes of this show ever made; mostly because it is able to lead to other story lines later.

You have Ned revealing he’s really a senior citizen but looks much younger because

he takes care of himself; something most people in Springfield believe means he really hasn’t lived at all.

Upset, he asks Homer to show him how to have a good time and ends up in an adventure in Las Vegas.

There are a couple things I like about this episode.

First, you have the ultimate odd couple.

      Homer is wild and ...

      • wreckless while Ned is scared to do anything.

Seeing them clash with each other in such a strange setting is priceless.

Then, you have the whole “we got drunk and married waitresses” thing.

First, I wonder if they slept with their new brides on their wedding night; something that would make the actual marriage even worse (and I really can’t imagine

Ned having sex, even though he does have two kids).

The fact they have all of Las Vegas after them in an effort to keep them from breaking their vows is hilarious.

And, you know the fact they never did divorce their new wives will come back to haunt them (and does later on in the series).

This is a fantastic episode and one I would recommend.
