How can a man survive twenty years in prison for a crime he can’t commit is hard to understand but how to move past wrongful imprisonment is even harder. After Innocence is the story of men who have been set free due to DNA evidence and what happens to them after. I had always assumed that those who were wrongfully imprisoned would be compensated by the state, but this documentary

shattered that delusion. While some states have laws that compensate those who were kept in prison while innocent there are many that don’t, and worse many states fight against any attempt for prisoners to prove their innocence. The most damming case against a state in this movie appeared to be to be that of a man in Florida who spent three years in prison after proving with DNA evidence that ...

      • the hairs which were used to convict him weren’t his, and while the prosecutors were quite willing to use those hairs to get a conviction when it was about to be overturned they quickly discounted their own evidence saying the hair could have come from anywhere. More than just telling stories though After Innocence made me want to do something. I may not become a crusader like many of the
people in the documentary but I will most certainly listen a little more carefully when someone says that they are innocent and question the wisdom of executions when so many are being found to be innocent and any movie which can change your outlook on something is well worth the time it takes to watch it and seeing the grace with which these men face the rest of their lives is even more worth seeing.
