Halifax and it’s surrounding cities are considered Halifax Regional Municipality, a mid-size city all put together. If you live in the HRM and you don’t have a car, you best have lots of patience! Our public transit system, Metro Transit, is awful. Bus Drivers will often fly by bus stops where passengers are waiting, or they do not wait at the designated terminals for the connecting buses.

I have often times been waiting for a bus at a terminal and it will be due in say fifteen minutes…but it won’t arrive for 45. Now we all know that traffic can be a hassle

at certain times of day, right? I thought first thing in the morning and around 5 in the evening would be the time to expect a late bus.

Not in this city…anytime you’re waiting, expect a late bus. Sometimes, it is not the driver’s fault though.

There are accidents or traffic jams, etc that delay a route, but not daily. Another thing I strongly dislike about Metro Transit is the driver’s attitudes.

If you were to get a coffee at Tim Horton’s and it hasn’t yet been opened, you cannot take it on the bus. The driver will make you throw it out ...

      • or he won’t let you on.

Sure this makes sense, as hot drinks can be dangerous in a vehicle. However, the driver’s themselves will pull the bus over on a street to get out and get themselves a coffee they can drink a long the way.

I’ve also been harassed about transfers not being valid (a slip that allows you to switch buses without paying additional fare) and had drivers drive right on by me while I stand outside their door waiting for them to open it! But calling the head office is a waste of time, they don’t even hear your complaints

or do anything about it because they can’t prove it. The scheduling system is unreliable.

At terminals, there is often a computer moniter incased in glass that will allow a person to view what time the next set of buses is due. This system is so unreliable it’s unbelievable! A bus that is due in 10 minutes will read that it is not due until the following morning.

Call the head office, right? No. They tell you what the system reads is the correct time.

If you live in HRM - buy a car or organize a carpool. It’s way more reliable than our bus system.
