I traveled to Galway by bus at the end of November 2008. The bus is a lot cheaper than the train. Remember to get a return bus ticket as it costs around 14 Euro one way and only 19 Euro return.

The bus does take around 4 hours but it is a very comfortable trip with a 10 minute stop to use facilities stretch legs ect.

We stayed at the Sleepzone Hostel in Galway located at Sleepzone Hostel, Bothar na mBan,Galway, Ireland, Tel: +353 91 566999. The hostel is located about 100 meters from the center square of Galway.

Sleepzone hostel is a very large hostel, that sleeps around 200 people. The dorm

rooms are very clean and all have a en suite bathroom. The showers all have the usual water saving, press for 30 seconds of water devices installed. The dorms vary between 3 and 10 bed dorms. There are also doubles available but depending on the time of year and week you could probably get a cheap hotel room for the same price. (especially on weekends)

This time of year is extremely cold in Ireland so remember to take your gloves and scarf. The Sleepzone hostel provides duvets and the rooms are heated to a good temperature at night.

      • Sleepzone Hostel you MUST book. We booked about 4 days prior and although we got a bed we had to switch rooms in the morning so no lovely sleep in. I definitely advise to book in advance if you are going to Galway on a weekend.

The Sleepzone Hostel has a massive influx of Irish 18 to 23 year olds on a Saturday night all dolled up for a HUGE night on the town. The hostel can be very noisy especially if your room is located on the ground floor. This is strange though as there are signs specifically indicating that alcohol is not allowed on the premises. I

saw one of the hostel staff tell someone to throw out their mixed can of drink although I had seen her earlier in the night drinking out of a mixed can herself.

The kitchen is big and clean but is closed from 10am till dinner time which was a bit inconvenient if you are self catering. Sleepzone Hostel provides about 6 old computers with free Internet and free WI FI.

Overall the Sleepzone Hostel was very clean and well run, but not allowing alcohol on premises and the sometimes too professional attitude of the staff combined with the expensive rates and noisy ground floor room would incline me to not stay there again.
