Sgt. Bilko with Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd, Phil Hartman, and Glenne Headly. I remember the old black and white TV show with Phil Silvers in the role of Sgt.

Bilko. It was one of my favorites and had a great supporting cast.

Trying to stretch the remake into a major motion picture is a bad idea and basically dragged out a half hour show into a 2 hour boring disaster.

Steve Martin neither showed comedic glimpses of his wild and crazy guy persona nor emotional portrayal as the dad in Cheaper By The Dozen.

Fatso Dan Akroyd was not funny at all as the Commanding Officer. Finally, Phil Hartman was just himself, which means a pompous ass.

The main theme of this disaster is the saving of Fort Baxter from being shut down. Bilko is a jerk who ...

      • justifies standing up his fiancee at the altar by proclaiming that he is just that way.

Hartman is in a position to have his revenge for a career killing trick that Bilko once played on him. The rest of the supporting cast is terrible as compared to the original ones.

The movie resembles a vaudeville act at times. There are some funny scenes but they are very short lived.

        Seeing

fat and out of shape soldiers trying to run the obstacle course has been done too many times to evoke laughter. Of course, we get the inspirational speech from Sgt.

Bilko with Pattonesque music in the background. Then, at the end of this seemingly endless movie, the glee club serenades Bilko’s fiancee and we are supposed to be touched.

Not even close. This movie was a real waste of talent and the audience’s time.
