Mobsters with Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, Richard Grieco, Costas Mandylor, and Anthony Quinn. With this group of limited actors, I never gave this movie a chance.

      Perhaps I was wrong.

The movie is based upon the early years of four soon to be infamous gangsters - Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, and Frank Costello.

Throw in some old time Sicilian mafia capos like Anthony Quinn

and you end up with an action packed documentary about the birth of organized crime in New York City.

Given the non stop action, the movie was lucky enough to not have to rely on this all star losers cast in order to keep our attention.

Basically we get to watch how loyalty between the Italian and Jewish elements kept our gang of four strong against the attacks from ...

      • the old corp Sicilian capos.

The music is pure Godfather genre and fit in well with the flow.

When the soon to be assassinated Quinn is asked what he likes to do the best, he proudly replies, I love to destroy people.

The mafia was portrayed as being full of infighting as the gangs competed for control of New York.

The police were barely evident in the

picture and the one time they are they appeared to be working for the mobsters.

In fact there is little play on the crimes they committed to accumulate their wealth.

So the story was okay as a emotionless documentary.

With better actors this movie would have had potential, but the audience got a cheap remake of earlier Edward G Robinson type pictures.

I suppose we will have to settle for that.
