Major League with Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, Corbin Bernsen, Rene Russo, and Bob Uecker. There have been many sports movies, but I would classify this film as being in the top three of all time. We all love to root for the underdog and the Cleveland Indians baseball team is a perfect choice.

Many jokes have been made at Cleveland’s expense and it was uplifting to join them in their

elated reactions as their team of losers pull it together to go to win a championship. The cast of actors is well chosen and their chemistry together helps create a realistic team feeling for the viewer.

The story is easy to get behind. The owner is a wicked witch who wants to move the team to Florida.

The problem is that she can only do this if the team does so poorly ...

      • that attendance drops drastically. So she puts together a team of social misfits and veteran has beens lead by an easy going minor league old timer coach.

Well, the magic happens and here in lies the strength of this film. The development of the characters into one happy family more or less is what draws the audience into this drive for the pennant.

We must have Russo and Berenger return together as a couple

because they are so good for each other. When the music for Wild Thing roars over the stadium speakers, we must see Charlie Sheen strike out the opposing home run hitter.

It is like this for the other characters too, down to the Chinese grounds crew. This movie has everything from comedy to romance to inspirational speeches and topped off by heroic exploits.

Do not miss Major League. It is a real winner.
